Today on set. ☺️
there is just something magical about her
Just thought I’d share this charming piece of graffiti from near my home.
By the way, this is the ONLY women’s library in the country, it has only women’s work in it and also serves as a sort of feminist museum. They’re affiliated with a university close by and hold regular events such as workshops and talks on subjects like the poetry of immigrant women of colour or the representation of mental health in women’s literature. Its also due to be closed down by the Conservatives.
Can men go in and borrow books written by women?
Yeah, totally, they even do events for men by women on intro to feminism, rape culture stuff sometimes!
god forbid women have a single fucking thing without men getting jealous like fucking children
how do you know it was dont by a man?
while on the subject, how dare any of you assume men are walking around pissed off about women’s freedom.
The claim that a company like McDonald’s can’t afford to pay wages over the minimum is absolutely insulting when you compare the salary of its CEO to one of its crew members.
I worked at a McDonald’s in New York over the summer and did a little math while I was there. In 2011, former McDonald’s CEO James Skinner made $8.75 million with compensation, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. In comparison, crew members made $7.25 an hour, for about $15,000 a year, if they stayed at the job year-round.
If you take Skinner’s total salary in 2011 and assume that he worked 40-hour week, he would have made $4,200 an hour. In one hour, he made 580 times more than the average McDonald’s worker. James Skinner made $33,600 a day, which is twice the salary tht a McDonald’s crew member makes in a year of full-time work.
Looking at it another way, the average worker would have to work for almost 600 years to make the salary that Skinner made in 2011. In one year, Skinner makes more than I could make in at least six lifetimes.

I did some math too:
There are 1.8 million people around the world that work at McDonald’s- and about 750,000 work in the US. They profited $5.5 billion last year. The CEO made $8.75M. If the CEO’s pay was divided between employees each employee would make around $11.67 more per year- and I can be certain that on average McDonald’s employees spend over $11.67 a year on weed.
If McDonald’s employees are making $9 / hour now and work 20 hours a week they would make $9,360 / year (20 x 9 = 180; 180 x 52 = 9,360).
If Being Liberal wants the minimum wage to be raised to $11 / hour they would make $11,440 / year (20x11 = 220; 220 x 52 = 11,440).
That would be $2,080 more per year on each employee, and would cost $1.56 Billion. $1.56B is over 1,783 x more than $8.75M. That’s why raising the minimum wage would cause prices to rise but paying the CEO $8.75M will not.
Now the amount it would cost would be a lot more than $1.56B. Employees make less than $9 / hour and work more than 20 hours / week so it would hurt even more.
The unions wants it to be $15 / hour and Elizabeth Warren thinks it should be over $22 / hour. Being Liberal seems like both plans but would be fine with any raise.
At $15 / hour and 20 hours /week they would make $15,600 per year and that is $6,420 more. That would be $4.8B per year spent on increasing salaries and McDonald’s would lose over 85% of their profits.
This also ignores other negative economic impacts of raising the minimum wage. Other no education professions that are much harder would also have to raise their salaries. A freezer worker who lifts heavy things makes $15.60 / hour starting salary. Tile layers make $17 / hour after a month. Call center employees make $13 / hour. Warehouse workers make at least $12 / hour. All of the people that work in those professions are harder workers than McDonald’s employees. If the minimum wage was raised to $15 / hour all of those employees would go work at McDonald’s for the same amount (or a little bit less) money because they wouldn’t have to work nearly as hard, and McDonald’s knows that they are better workers than their current employees. Those companies would have to increase salaries to keep employees and raise prices to cover the costs.
Another thing, employees would definitely be replaced by machines and the employees would end up on welfare.
Finally, McDonald’s isn’t the only company out there. In high school, I worked for a company where the owner had one store and said that he made $20,000- but only worked 3 hours a day. A lot of small business owners would give up and retire or go work for someone.
If you want workers to make more money, shop at places where they charge 3x more and pay their employees good wages. Go to a Cameron Mitchell restaurant and shop at Trader Joe’s. If everyone went to those places, those businesses would expand and there would be more no-skilled jobs available that pay high wages.
